Nothing prepares the visitor for the seemingly empty and horizon less expanse of steppe or
grassland that marks landform of Eastern Mongolia. As one enters this realm, the apparent emptiness disappears and the visitor is stuck by the tremendous diversity and uniqueness of the steppe landscape, flora and fauna. The Eastern area of Mongolia comprises 3 provinces of Khentii, Dornod and Sukhbaatar. Khentii, the motherland of Chinggis Khaan, is replete with monuments, relics and ruins dating back to the ancient time. Rich expanses of steppe grass with a large number volcanic mounts, ancients monuments, and historical places related to the time of Manchu dynasty ruling in Mongolia are found in the land of Sukhbaatar province. The Dornod, land of plain is one of the largest, undisturbed steppe ecosystem in the world and the core habitat of the beautiful Mongolian gazelle. In the east you will also find pockets of small lakes with an abundance of bird life such as ubiquitous Demoiselle Crane and the Steppe Eagle, perfect for the birdwatchers. We will start our journey to the east, from Terelj National Park - part of the Khentii mountain range ptotected within the Khan Khentii Strictly Protected Area. The amazing alpine landscape and unique granite rock formations continue to fascinate visitors. During spring and summer the meadows and riverbanks are carpeted by wildflowers. You can do hiking and horseriding. Further on the way we’ll stop by Baganuur town - based on the coalmine, which supplies capital’s power stations and heating system. Khuduu Aral - a motherland of Chinggis Khaan. There is the Monument of Chinggis Khaan, historical and archeological sites containing rich remains of an ancient palace, believed to be the winter palace of the great Emperor. You will listen to short lecture on Chinggis Khaan’s life and war legends there. The next destination is Sukhbaatar province, the land of the legends where the Dariganga people live. They live in the southern part of Sukhbaatar province and are famous for its silver smiths and blacksmiths. There are sand dunes of the Gobi and the grassy plains of the northern steppe converge to create what looks like thousands of hectares of perfect natural golf courses. You will have opportunity to hike around, meet local people and listen to famous legends about the land and their heros. Brief Itinerary Day 1. Arrival in UB. City tour Day 2.
